There’s a cricket in our bedroom. It appeared overnight, to give us a little private gig.
We’re wondering if it will have moved on to the next venue by this evening, or if it’s going to be in residency.

Crab Spider
I believe that this pale green specimen in a crab spider. It’s the first time that I’ve seen a spider this colour.
This plant has been at the bottom of the garden, spreading its ugly leaves wider and wider, and Karen and I were slowly appreciating it less and less. Then, suddenly, flower buds appeared – dozens of them. And we like it now.

Stag beetle
As promised, a stag beetle.
It was the orange sacs on the legs that really drew my attention here. The bee is currently busy on a Aquilegia.

An injured bug
This one’s for you, Unreliable Witness.
As it’s hard to judge scale in this photo, you should know that the bug is approximately four feet long.
You should also know that I was not the cause of this little guy’s injury. Not to my knowledge, anyway.

Wildlife In The Garden
I went out into the garden today and saw a fab-looking spider, so I dashed off to get my camera.
And then a rather large dragonfly, one of the largest that I’ve ever seen, came fluttering past. “Please settle on a leaf somewhere,” I implored. The dragonfly obliged, and stayed there long enough for me to get half a dozen shots.
The bees were working in the lavender with dedication, and wouldn’t stay still long enough for an obscenely close close-up.

Snails
While weeding the garden, I discovered a nest of snails. I violated their lair to use them for my own amusement.
I lured this guy out with a leaf.
I had to clean the table afterwards.
I tried to mate these two. They seemed interested in eachother, but no hardcore ensued.
