Daily links for Tuesday 13th January 2009

  • “Morris dancing could be extinct within 20 years because young people are too embarrassed to take part, a UK Morris association said today.” – what I want to know is: Is there any way that we can accelerate this process?

Yes. Open a decent pub in Sipson and they will all be buried under the new runway.

Seriously, what have you got against Morris dancers. What harm do they do you? Are they any more or less harmful than, say, ballroom dancers, jive dancers or ravers pogo-ing in a mosh pit?

They say that they bring fertility to the area and to those that witness their dancing. They danced here, just outside Pub Next Door on May Day 2005. Nine months later, a child was born unto us.
Spooky coincidence or something more sinister? Obviously, it had nothing to do with us having sex or anything. Obviously.

What harm do they do you?

They stand in the middle of the street and skip backwards without looking where they are going. It’s very dangerous.

Who says that? Let me guess – Morris Dancers. Funny, that.

Anyway, they’re being melodramatic. Morris Dancing died out in the Industrial Revolution and was revived in 1899, so even if it did die out again in 20 years from now, there’s no reason why it couldn’t be revived again in the future if people wanted it to be.

Yeah, but they ring their bells to let you know they are reversing.

“jingle, jangle” this morris dancer is reversing, this morris dancer is reversing
