Dailies for Monday 8th December 2008

  • Video. You don’t need the sound on to be able to enjoy this.
  • “The 696 Form compels licensees who wish to hold live music events in 21 London Boroughs to report to the police the names, addresses, aliases and telephone numbers of performers, and most worryingly, the likely ethnicity of their audience. Failure to comply could result in fines or imprisonment. We believe this places unnecessary and frankly Orwellian powers in the hands of the Metropolitan Police, an institution which does not have the best record of racial fairness. The 696 form can only serve to deter the staging of live musical events – a positive form of activity in London and all cities – stifle free expression and quite possible penalise certain genres of music and ethnic audiences. It is an intrusion too far.”

Melting cheese

I wish that I’d planned this a bit better, and filmed the cheese from the moment when it went into the oven. And used a tripod too. Next time.

And yes, our oven door is incredibly clean.

Useful Information

How big is a bacterium?

The largest common bacterium are 20 µm in length. This is 0.02mm, or 1/15240th the size of a large pizza. Trying to see a bacterium from a distance of 6 inches is like trying to see a large pizza from a distance of one and a half miles.

And that’s just the big ones.

Best pizza base ever

Base

This was such a damn good pizza base, I felt that I should photograph it for posterity.

More photos of the pizza after the “jump”.

About Me

Run for your lives! A mem!

Four jobs you’ve had in your life:

  • Barman
  • Website designer (but then who hasn’t?)
  • Desktop publisher (hey, that doesn’t mean that I was actually any good at it though)
  • Computer programmer

Four movies you could watch over and over:
Over and over, eh? Well, here are four movies that I like quite a lot. Not sure about “over and over” though.

Four places you’ve lived:

  • Lincolnshire
  • Warwickshire
  • Surrey
  • Berkshire

Four TV shows you love to watch:
Oh stop it with the unnecessarily passionate language. No-one really “loves” to watch TV shows, do they?

Four places you’ve been on vacation:

  • New York
  • Prague
  • Budapest
  • Dublin

Four websites you visit daily:

Four of your favorite foods:

  • Chilli con carne
  • Pistachio nuts
  • Opal fruits
  • Pizza

Four places you’d rather be:

  • The pub down the road
  • The pub across the road
  • The pub up the road
  • The pub on the other side of the roundabout

Four albums you can’t live without:
You’re doing it again. Stop it. I like these four, but I would find a way to soldier on if for some reason they were taken from me, never to return. Get some perspective.

Four magazines you read:
I can’t tell whether this is “read” in the present tense or past tense. So I’m opting for the latter, otherwise my answer would be a bit short. I’m also assuming that it is specifically asking about paper-based periodicals.

  • NME (up until quite recently)
  • Bassist (a few years ago)
  • Look-in (a few decades ago)
  • Dandy (a few decades ago)

Four cars you’ve owned:
This survey seems to be aimed at people who have either been driving for a long time, or are quite bad at it. I’ve taken a liberty with number four.

  • Ford Sierra
  • VW Golf
  • Vauxhall Astra
  • A small square of car-pet

Four people to do this meme:
What do you think I am? Some sort of clairvoyant? Stuff off.

Change all the answers so they apply to you, and then publish! A little lesson

Don’t take photos of food, no matter how inviting it looks. Your brain says “Mmmm, that’s one good pizza, lovingly crafted, and though cooked a little past perfection, that is going to taste gorgeous.”

a delicious spicy pizza

But the world says “That’s what you think. In twenty seconds that plate is going to be flipped over. Though you will catch it, you will be slightly too slow to prevent three of those slices landing on your beautiful carpet, two of them face down.”

This is why you keep your carpet clean, people.
