So over the last few days, we&#8217;ve been hearing a lot of variations on the following themes. Warning: surreal humour follows.<\/p>\n<p>B: Knock knock!<br \/>\nMe: Who&#8217;s there?<br \/>\nB: Ah&#8230; Mrs Connors!<\/p>\n<p>This last line is delivered in a sing-song voice and with a cheeky smile that leaves you in no doubt that it is intended as the punchline. If you dare to go further, then you&#8217;ll be rewarded with something like:<\/p>\n<p>Me: Mrs Connors who?<br \/>\nB: Ah&#8230; a blanket!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s all my own fault. The problem is, one of the first &#8220;knock knock&#8221; jokes I tried to tell him was a non-standard one. I tried to teach him to run, before he could fly. See if you can spot exactly which rogue &#8220;knock knock&#8221; joke it was:<\/p>\n<p>B: Knock knock!<br \/>\nMe: Who&#8217;s there?<br \/>\nB: An interrupting cow *(sounds more like &#8220;a truptin cow&#8221; but we know what he&#8217;s trying to say)*<br \/>\nMe: An interrupting cow who?<br \/>\nB: Ah&#8230; Mr Connors!<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an absurd and surreal brilliance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the weekend, I tried to teach Bernard about &#8220;knock, knock&#8221; jokes, and made a complete mess of it.
